Hi!

My phone broke down and i found an old one we have lying around the house but we've forgotten the password. Is there a way I can wipe it and start it as a new phone.

Do you mean you forgot the 4 or 6 digit passcode for the phone? If yes, follow the directions in this link --> If you forgot your iPhone passcode - Apple Support
