Sounds like the link is failing intermittently. It could be something about the connection between the wire and the phone, or there could be a kink or bad connection in the power adapter, or the cable itself. I would try a different cable if you have one. Also, look at this support document and see about checking the charging port. If your iPhone or iPod touch won't charge - Apple Support
