Please read the instruction in Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant very carefully. If you have not turned on the new iMac yet, please use the Setup Assistant method. If you have already setup the new iMac then use the Migration Assistant method. NEVER EVER EVER EVER use Wi-Fi to migrate.
