4K Monitor Lag

I've seen this question before but there was no answer

I have a MacBook Pro 2016 Touch Bar w 4 Usb-c

Intel Iris Graphics 550 1536 MB

16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3

3.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7

I've got the LG 27UL880 Screen and connected it Via Usb-C to the laptop ( which is closed )

Am facing a huge lagging regarding the animations on Mac ( opening and minimizing a window )

Also as watching 4k videos on YouTube it is impossible specially when going full screen mode.

I am using the cable provided by the screen which is way thicker than the MacBook charging cable

Does anyone have any idea why is this happening ?

Resolution is 3008x1692 the bigger not scaled resolution is too small to see and the default is too big

Hi Jad,

Based on the tech specs for your MacBook Pro, the supported resolutions are the following:

  • 1680 by 1050
  • 1440 by 900
  • 1024 by 640

You can learn more about the tech specs in the following link: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports) - Technical Specifications.

From here, we'd recommend trying the thunderbolt cable and reaching out to LG for additional support for your display.

Take care!

Hello dear ,

Yes I understand that the cable provided with the screen is more than enough to do the job for most people online, no I haven't tried a thunderbolt 3 cable, all functions are working properly so far but maybe I will try if that's my last resort.

And the topic you sent me is not for the display I have, mine is not natively working with Mac ( birghtness or volume ) can't be controlled.

LG 27UL880-B no the 23.7unch LH Ultrafine 4K

Please keep in mind. that only on natively supported resolution ( 1080 or 4k ) everything works smoothly. once I go into scaled one the problems start.

Hello Jad,

We understand your display lags when an animation such as opening and closing windows is displayed. We'd be happy to provide information.

We see you have the MacBook Pro and the LG display connected via USB-C. Have you tried using a thunderbolt cable to connect the two devices and test the performance? Take a look at the following resource for information on using LG displays: Use the 23.7-inch LG UltraFine 4K Display with your Mac or iPad.
