How to save a file in another extension?

I'm trying to download some pictures using Safari, but I want them all in .png.. If I try to download them as .png, I'm getting this message:

Is there any way to disable this restriction? In other web browsers like Brave, I can download files in any custom extension I want, but I prefer using Safari for a better power saving of my MacBook..

Thanks in advance!

Hi Adrian2895,

The extension defines the file type. The mechanics (compression, transparency, etc.) of a JPEG are different than that of a PNG, and would require a physical conversion to the new filetype, as opposed to just a simple name change. To my knowledge, no browser (Brave included) will physically do a filetype conversion at the time of download.

If Brave does allow you to change the extension, that sounds problematic. If you download File.jpeg and change its name to File.png in the process, I would wager that what you really have is still a JPEG file but now with a very incorrect, and misleading, extension applied to it.
