Settings>Focus>Share across Devices>Off.
Settings>Focus>Share across Devices>Off.
The support article you came here from..
The first screenshot shows a switch at the bottom that says 'Share Across Devices'
I would suggest turning that off.
I use 2FA so I can’t test this. Did you try turning off Share across devices on all of your devices?
Also noticed for that setting (Share Across Devices) to be turned off or on, you have to have two factor authentication enabled, and I don’t want that enabled. The switch is turned off for Sharing Across Devices in Focus settings, nonetheless……
Yes, by default it’s turned off on all my devices…..but no matter what device I turn Do Not Disturb on in Focus, it turns on Do Not Disturb to all my devices…..and the same for turning off Do Not Disturb
In Settings>Focus, below the switch window to turn on or off Sharing Across Devices, I have a message that states, Focus syncing requires 2FA. Also the switch within the window box itself cannot be turned off or on, because I don’t use 2FA, switch is deactivated (grayed out), but is in the off position. Having said that, you would think my other devices wouldn’t change or sync in Focus, to my other devices, but they do??? Sounds like an update may be needed?

That doesn’t make sense to me. If you need 2FA in order to sync focus across devices, I would think that you should be able to turn off the syncing since you don’t use 2FA. Another Apple mystery?
Found the fix for this….I enabled 2FA on my devices, even though I didn’t want to. You have to setup 2FA in order to enable and disable Focus. If you don’t enable 2FA, Focus will enable across devices by default, even though it appears to be turned off, and the on/off switch is unusable.
I’m glad that you found the fix, but that seems like typical Apple overkill to me. Why force someone to use 2FA for something as benign as Focus? Is Focus a security thing? Furthermore, why would Apple think that it should be switched on by default on all of your devices rather than the one that you choose yourself? Sheesh…
Yes, I saw that, and it’s turned off. However, when I set focus to Do Not Disturb on one device, it goes to all my devices?
Can you explain how you came to realize that your need to use 2FA for this? I couldn’t find any documentation of that requirement in the related document above.
Exactly, definitely overkill….Should approach iOS software design with the K.I.S.S. method 🙂 Have a great Friday…..
