You can’t compare the cost of a 4 pack ($100) to the cost of a single item ($29). To do that, you need to multiply the single unit cost by 4 ($116). The 4 pack is cheaper.
Actually, I don't. Losing out on $70? a 4-pack is $99. An individual tag is $29. So if you purchased 4 individual tags ( I wouldn't if I can get a discount on a 4-pack), the difference is only $17.
I just placed a 4-pack in my cart online (and can pick it up tomorrow locally) so they are available. Bulk purchasing of any products at a discount is a time-honored marketing method. So, makes perfect sense.
No, the difference for the retailer is either selling $100 worth of items as opposed to the customer only buying one since the 4-pack isn’t an option. 100-29= 71 opportunity loss. This is due to me buying different things for people. What makes sense is if the 4-pack doesn’t exist, you sell the individuals that aren’t selling. Why? You move inventory and increase revenue.
Yeah you do. I didn’t buy 4 because they were out of the 4 pack and tried to charge me for 4 individual tags at full price. They incentivize you for buying four but only if it’s in a pack. It’s not logical. Thanks for the corporate answer though.
Likely not. You would need to buy the four pack.
This is a user-to-user technical support forum. No one here knows why Apple makes particular pricing decisions.
However, it's quite common for retailers to offer a discount if you buy some sort of multi-pack. Items in such packaging are cheaper for the manufacturer (less packaging) and and cheaper for the retailer as they are faster to inventory (one barcode to scan instead of four) and sell (again, one package to scan, not four). Apple also has a vested interest in getting as many AirTags out in the field as possible as they're trying to grow the ecosystem. But, all of that is just a guess based on my twenty years of retail inventory management experience.
Don’t you think that losing out on 70 dollars is kind of an odd thing to do? It stopped me from buying 4 altogether.
Not sure what you mean. You can purchase a 1-pack, or 4-pack at https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-airtag/airtag. When you review your bag, you can add nearly any quantity.
I’m not. I’m comparing either buying one for myself or 4 which I can give 3 for gifts. There is a 71 risk if I don’t get the 100 dollar deal and walk away and a 16 dollar reward if I buy 4 individuals. The risk is a lot higher than the potential reward for the company.
Again, no one here can speak for Apple. We are all just users like you.
