Yes, I realize that, but it worked with previous OS's and chips and now it does not work, so something likely changed on Apples end. that being said, here is the real stickler - if Garmin releases an update, I can't install it because I cant connect the Garmin to my Mac. So....

Well, considering all of my (intel based) apps do work fine on an M1 Mac except for the Garmin Express app, I'm pointing the finger at Garmin here and awaiting their software team to get things current (get with it Garmin!). Given the Apple M1 processor is due to be their current processor in all of their products as they phase out Intel altogether, Garmin owes new and future customers full support of the M1 processor ....and soon!

Thanks, but, I do not use Garmin cables. I have 3 heavy duty cables of other brands here that have both charging and full data capability. They all work fine with my Garmin on an Intel based mac (i5 Mac Mini and i9 iMac 27). The M1 processor does not support communication Garmin through Garmin Express, period. A Bad cable and/or connection is not the issue here, it is the M1 processor that's the culprit.

Probably true, but here is my dilema - If Garmin releases a M1 compatible update, I can install it since my new Mac will not even communicate with the Garmin device.

And I am not even to the point of using Garmin Express. the old Mac would "mount" the Garmin just like a portable hard drive. then you communicate with the Garmin device thru Garmin Express. The M1 will not even mount the Garmin device

It IS due to the M1 chip! I have 4 macs.....one is M1 and the others are intel (i5 and i9). Only the M1 Macbook air refuses to connect to my Garmin GPS using -Garmin Express-. Same cables, same GPS, same app, ...it is due to the M1 processor. Have to say though, the M1 processor is fast and stays cool when worked hard. M1 Apple processor still rocks and other then Garmin software not working with the M1 cpu, my M1 macs seem to work with most everything else.

Hate to tell you, but Garmin makes garbage cables. The USBA end of the cable sometimes (too often) will not fully contact the pads on the computer. I can rarely connect the garbage cable to my 2019 MBP the first time ... often takes 5 minutes of jiggling. Same with my Garmin-watch cable.

So indeed ... give Garmin an earful.
