DO NOT BUY G-DRIVE USB-C EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES AS THEY DO NOT WORK WITH MONTEREY

Just spent a couple of hours or so working out the the external hard drives - "G-Drive mobile USB-C" do not work on Monterey. Even worse, they won't mount, won't eject, and prevent the computer (iMac) from shutting down. Works just fine on Mojave on an older iMac.

Apple sell these in store as specifically compatible for Mac - absolute nonsense - they don't work with Monterey and the forums have plenty of people with the same problem.

Stop selling them Apple - you are ripping us off and wasting our time.

Bitterly disappointed.

Don't think so. Should be a straightforward plug and play. That what happens on Mojave. None of the forum "solutions" have worked for me or anyone else. I have an older 1TB G-drive (not USB-C) that works fine on Monterey.

I'd say you are a lucky customer! Said G-drive has been returned and swapped for a Lacie drive instead which works just fine as soon as plugged in.

Maybe I should have added the word "consistently" to my post title but whatever, there are problems with G-Drive and Monterey as described in the other posts.

G-Technology has acknowledged this as an (Apple) issue on their website.

Disappointingly I’ve seen no acknowledgement from Apple or any reference to a fix in Monterey 12.1

Maybe we crossed wires. It's systemic. It's not located to my set-up. "Don't think so" was in relation to it being related to my setup!

You say it works fine on older Macs. What is the Mac it is not working on? Is it an M1 or and Intel? It may not be Monterey but related to Monterey on a specific type of Mac.
