File Sharing Keeps Turning Off After Upgrading to Monterey

This is not the first time that this has happened. It happened with previous macOS versions as well.

I have an app on my iPhone which allows me to browse, open, copy and play files which are on my iMac. This requires that File Sharing is turned on, on my iMac running Monterey. However, as has occurred before with previous versions of macOS, for some reason which remains unknown to me. File Sharing keeps turning off on my iMac. Does anyone know what causes this to happen, or at least how to permanently fix it?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hi WordWeaver777,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities! From our understanding, File Sharing on your Mac will turn off on it's own, do we have that right? You mentioned that this is happening on macOS Monterey, is this happening on the latest version of macOS Monterey ( 12.0.1)? Does this happen in multiple users? Is your iPhone also up to date? is the app you're using up to date as well?

Yes, File Sharing turns off on its own.

Yes, it happens with Monterey 12.0.1.

I am the only user on my machine.

My iPhone is running iOS 15.1.

The app I am using on my iPhone — FileBrowser — is also up-to-date.

Just now, before typing out this response, I checked the setting, and it was again disabled, so I enabled it, and then FileBrowser started working on my iPhone XS Max.

As I said, this has happened before, but back then it was between the two iMacs on my LAN. I often have to copy files from my work machine to my other iMac which runs my web server. Quite often I could not connect to my web server machine, because File Sharing had turned off. I don’t know what eventually fixed it … maybe an OS update. Who knows.

So now a similar problem is occurring, but this time between my work machine and my iPhone.
