I have never updated my Airport Time Capsule. It is still on version 6.3. How do I go about updating it?

I've never updated the solftware on my Airport Time Capsule. Do I have to download each update in turn or just go straight to the latest one? How do I go about this? Thanks!

To see if your current version of AirPort Utility can be used to update the Time Capsule.........(this may or may not be possible).

Open AirPort Utility on your Mac (Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility)

Click on the picture of the Time Capsule to select it, and a smaller window with information about the Time Capsule will hopefully appear

If you see an Update button in the smaller window, click on it to update the firmware on the Time Capsule to the latest version.

If your Time Capsule is "flat" shaped and looks somewhat like a small white pizza box, the most up to date version of firmware is 7.8.1.

If your Time Capsule is "tall" shaped and looks like a tower, the most up to date version of firmware is 7.9.1

It might be another discussion, but if your Time Capsule is 5-6+ years old, both the hard drive and internal power supply are subject to failure at just about any time. So, you would not want to keep any data on the Time Capsule that you cannot afford to lose.
