Will Apple store accept trade-in, instead of mailing?

I purchased a new iPhone online with trade-in of older iPhone. Customer service rep at store said if I order online to get new phone faster, they’ll accept my old phone at the store (and install the SIM card from old phone) so I don’t have to ship it. A friend shipped his and they received an empty package, I don’t want to deal with such a mess. I plan to have them set up the new phone and also need some accessories.

I can’t find anything online or trade-in instructions that this is an option though. So my question is: do they accept your trade-in at the store even though your purchase (and trade) was done online?

Thanks

The return window is not from the date you ordered the phone. It is from the date the new phone was delivered to you. And you can certainly trade the device, within the 14 day window from receipt of the new phone in an Apple Store. I have done that the last 3 years, even though I ordered online and Apple sent the trade in box to ship my phone to their trade partner.

Well that did not work out as I was told by apple support. They could have only taken the phone and gave me a store credit or $300 cash, because it was outside the 14 day window of purchase- even though the phone was back-ordered and took longer than 14 days to receive. If I’d had my return kit with me last night, they could have wrapped it up and given to FedEx for me but the return kit was just delivered this morning and I wouldn’t have been able to get in again until Friday evening. I am still going to take it in and have them wrap it up so I have a manager’s name, which she said was fine. I even called apple support yesterday to see if I needed the return kit with me for them to take the trade-in because it had not arrived yet, if so I would have changed my appointment, but I was assured they did not need it.

If you just received your phone Monday, there is absolutely NO reason you shouldn't be able to trade it in store. You are well within the return window. Clearly the store people are misinformed.

I did exactly what you are trying to do at my local Apple Store. What will happen is the trade value will go as a credit to the payment method you used to purchase the phone. The actual trade in through mail in won't be canceled though. So after the return window expires in now less than 2 weeks, the trade value you were offered at time of initial order, will be added back to the cost of the phone. But, you will already have a credit to your account for the trade in. So it works out to be the same.

And I did this with two iPhones ( traded two iPhone 12 phones for a 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max) and two Apple Watches (trading in two Series 4 for Series 7) very recently. All new devices were ordered online and delivered to my home. The trades were given to my local Apple Store.
