DVD/CD drive not recognized

I am having problems with my dvd drive not being recognized on my imac. When the computer is powered on you can hear the drive spinning up. The profiler tells me there is NO DVD drive on the computer. I purchased another drive and installed it and still get the same problem. When I put a DVD in the drive you can hear it spinning. Keyboard won't eject the DVD. I have tried resetting the computer logic with no change. Can anyone help!!!

Hello gene85

Create a new User Account and test the drive in it +(System Preferences > Accounts)+

Reset the PRAM as per > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 and then test the drive.

Run the 10.6.4 Combo Update over the current version, > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048 then test the drive.

Back-up all your DATA with Time Machine or clone your Internal HD to an External HD, +(using SuperDuper, CarbonCloner or Disk Utility Restore)+ then Reinstall and Upgrade the OS X from scratch.

I did what you said!

No joy!

Tried to reinstall Snow Leopard but when I restart the computer and hold the option key down the only thing that shows up is the Harddrive.

The DVD drive is spinning. I have tried another DVD drive and nothing seems to work. Could it be the cable for the drive and is there any way for me to test it?
