HDR not working on 13 Pro Max.
Has anyone else noticed that the HDR function is not working for still photos on the iPhone 13 Pro Max? I’m getting blown out highlights, and that did not happen with my 11 Pro.

Hi scottfromclarkston,
It sounds like your camera isn't taking HDR photos as expected. We're glad you've joined us in Apple Support Communities, and we can provide some assistance.
When it's most effective, iPhones 12 and 13 capture images in HDR (for both the back and front cameras) by default. You'll want to see if HDR is more noticeable by taking a picture in a high-contrast environment. For more information about how HDR works on iPhone, check out: Adjust HDR camera settings on iPhone.
Follow the steps in If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working. The troubleshooting in this link has the most frequent solutions to fixing your camera. Also, let us know if this is happening with the back camera, front camera, or both.
If you continue to experience issues after following the steps and suggestions above, please let us know if you're using any case, an accessory that might block it, or have a magnet near the camera.
We hope that helps with your question and take care!
I'm having exactly the same problem and it's driving me crazy. If it's helpful, I just have the Pro, not the max. Have you figured anything more out about this?
It does feel like the HDR isn't working. In photos, there's a setting to view photos in HDR. When that's on, my problem photos look great. When it's off, they look blown out - and when I send them to others or post on platforms, they're blown out (viewed on other devices).
Thank you for your reply. I tried the troubleshooting steps you mentioned and didn’t solve the problem. I’m a professional photographer who shoots a lot with the iPhone, and it’s obvious to me that the 13 Pro Max is not shooting in HDR like my 11 Pro did. If it’s a software issue I’m ok with waiting for an update. But if it’s a hardware problem, I think I should exchange the 13 for another.
