certificate not trustful - Exchange email does not work with Monterey

Since I upgraded to MacOS Monterey, my exchange email does not work anymore. The likely reason is a self-signed certificate of the mail server. Unfortunately, I cannot change this.

Obviously, the certificate is regarded as not trustful and it seems that I can't connect to the server. I have already explicitly declared the certificate as trustful, but the system appears to ignore this assignment and refuses to connect to the server.

I have a macbook pro 2018, but this is not the problem, because the email worked correctly before I upgraded to Monterey.

Thanks in advance!

I could "make" the certificate trustful by going into the keychain application on my mac. There, I looked for our server name and found a respective (SSL?) certificate. After a double-click one gets the option "to trust" the certificate.

It is funny, because other mail applications such as Airmail appear not to have this problem. They do connect to the alleged not trustful server - but not Apple Mail. Since I am used to Apple Mail, I would like to keep it and not to change the e-mail client. This is really frustrating, because I need e-mails and I would also like to have the new software.
