Uninstalled Norton from my macbook, network isn’t working anymore, macbook crashing into a loop.

I have a macbook pro from 2019

i just uninstalled Norton. A pop up said ‘for Norton to uninstall you need to restart your device’ (sth like that) so I followed that.

My device turned on and made me choose a network for some reason. I clicked my wifi network, typed the password, pressed enter. Another notification pops up. My macbook needs a critical software update (i now still have Big Sur) and I need to be connected to a network to do so. I can only choose between ‘shut down’ and ‘continue’

‘Continue’ sends me back into a loop of typing in the password for my wifi network and getting the notification again (even with a different network)

Through the apple community I find the option to boot my laptop in Safe Mode. Through this I have acces to my mac again and I try to install the software update. Eventually it asks me to type my administrator password to continue the software update. I am certain I have the right password (as it worked in Terminal later), although it doesn’t work.

I was thinking about reinstalling my entire mac OS, although I can’t make a back up bc I don’t have the right ports (or a converter) for an external disk. My iCloud and Apple ID don’t seem to work either.

I installed Norton’s ‘remove Norton mac files’ zip. I ran the whole application through Terminal and restarted my mac but it didn’t make any difference.

Can someone please help me out with this? I have an assessment next week for which I need my mac rn to work on my project. I can’t do anything right now.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.5

Hi, Ro5ed, and thanks for reaching out. It looks like you're having an issue starting up your Mac outside of safe mode. We'll be glad to assist.

If it's working properly in safe mode, simply removing any login items on your account may solve this. Remove login items to resolve startup problems on your Mac

Since safe mode disables login items, that may be the reason your Mac starts normally when you boot into safe mode.

We hope that helps you out.

Cheers!
