I recently accidentally deleted an iMessage thread I would like to recover. My iCloud storage says messages are taking up 17.3 GB, but I cannot figure out how to access these messages. Is there a way to get to these messages stored on iCloud? Oh and my phone says it is not backed up to iCloud.

Is there a way to access the messages on iCloud? I can get to the photos on iCloud and download them to my Mac. Is there a way to download old messages to a file or something and then I can delete them from the device without them being erased forever. I would still have the backup of them. Is there any way to do this, even if it's to a text file?
Once deleted, messages are erased. As you use messages in iCloud, restoring from a backup will not be possible (your messages are stored in iCloud but only to sync across devices).
