Kensington expert mouse trackball - mac preferences - tracking speed keeps changing or resetting - KensingtonWorks bug
Hi All,
Are you having issues with Kensington Trackball whereby every time your mac wakes from sleep the tracking speed in your system>preferences>mouse settings changes back to the slowest speed and will not remember your preferred settings? If so, here's a fix that worked for me. I'm on Catalina, using a Kensington expert mouse, recently purchased.
@promixmat posted in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252568716?answerId=254877708022#254877708022 that rolling back Kensington (KensingtonWorks) software solved the problem. So I tried this, and it worked for me too. Sharing here because the old thread is closed.
I contacted Kensingtoson support and they provided the following instructions for rolling back the software, and the download link. I only had to go through step 4 and restart.
I'm using 2015 Macbook Pro, Catalina.
The rolled back version of KensingtonWorks (version that works), is version 2.2.13 (linked below).
FROM KENSINGTON TECH SUPPORT REP:
1. Go to Finder > Applications > Utilities > Run KensingtonWorks Uninstaller.
[for this step, I simply trashed the application from Applications folder and restarted, worked]
2. Restart the computer.
3. Download the KensingtonWorks 2.2.10 from the below link: https://www.kensington.com/siteassets/software-support/kensingtonworks/new-kensingtonworks-download/kensingtonworks_2.2.10.pkg
[This actually downloaded ver 2.2.13 for me, but it worked]
4. Install the software from the downloaded file
5. Go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General
6. Check if the software shows blocked in the general tab. If so, allow it
7. Go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility > check KensingtonWorks Helper
8. Go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Privacy > Input monitoring > check KensingtonWorks Helper
9. Unplug the Trackball
10. Restart the computer
11. Plug the trackball and Open KensingtonWorks, check the functionality.
