So I ordered 16" MacBook Pro M1 Max 64 gb 2TB to replace my similar 2019 16" planned to use my G Tech (was Mac friendly) 1TB USB C which has been great but reading that it will not show up on M1's running Monterey.
I even contacted their support which brilliantly told to run older Mac OS. :(
So anyone currently using a fast portable SSD under above circumstances?
Any SSD should work. Do not use the included disk management software that comes with the SSD. Use your Mac's Disk Utility to manage the SSD. Format the drive with Disk Utility before using it.

I realize any SSD should work but it’s obvious they don’t. Their forum is full of this issue. And I may add the G Tech drive is still offered by Apple though I got mine from B & H. I never use any included software for external drives. I always use nothing but the OS.
Do you have the new M1 Pro and what ssd are you using?
