ipad mail frozen

After working fine for more than three years, mail suddenly is frozen this morning. It shows a white screen with “no message selected” and a blank column of messages (no headers etc). All of the activity buttons (write, mailboxes, etc) are nonfunctional. Mail for both the iCloud and gmail account continues to work fine via my iPhone and message additions or deletions on the phone change the notification number on the iPad.

I’ve

quit and reloaded (multiple times)

rebooted (also multiple times)

deleted mail and reloaded it from the app store

toggled off fetch/push and iCloud mail and rebooted.

none of the above worked, still a frozen app

Hello there, Dwyne!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you have an issue with your Mail app being frozen on your iPad. You’ve tried excellent steps so far and, at this point, it would be a good idea to be sure there is not a software issue as the root cause of this for you.

  1. Check out this article for the steps for How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
  2. Use this article for the steps to Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings.
  3. Set the device up as new and test to see if the issue is still going on.
  4. Follow this article to Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

If the issues continue after reinstalling, we would recommend reaching out to Apple directly by checking out this link to Get Support and they will be more than happy to proceed with additional steps.

Have a great day!
