I am considering buying a 2020 MacBook Air M1 13” 8GB RAM 256 GB SSD. I want to edit photographs and will run Photoshop Lightroom to do this. Would this MacBook be a suitable spec to run the software (it specifies minimum 8GB RAM) and handle large files, and would it have the storage required?

Thank you.

If you want to do that sort of work with Adobe products, special order a MacBook Air with 16 GB of RAM and at least 512 GB SSD. Despite what Adobe specifies as minimum, it is no where near enough to run any of their products. The minimum in reality for their photography products is in fact 16GB.

If you search the web, you may find some Apple approved retailers that will stock custom configurations so you may not actually have to special order.

Hey Deej100,

before I got myself the current 16" MacBook Pro M1 Pro, I had the 13" MacBook Air with 8 GB, but 512GB SSD. I for myself also use the Lightroom Classic and Photoshop Combo and never had any issues in the past year. Yes of course it is slower than my current Mac, but hey, it costs 2,5k€ less so.. surprise ;-)

If you do lots and lots of work in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop with huge data and every minute of efficiency is a dollar, I'd go with the newer MacBook Pro.

I hope, I could help you. Have fun with your new device! Which ever it might be.
