How can someone else be viewing my text messages
Thanks for reaching out, Jess-Co35.
It sounds like you're concerned that your messages are being viewed by someone else, and want to know how that might happen. We can help.
While it would be uncommon for your messages to be read by someone else on a different device, there are a few scenarios where it would be possible.
First, we'd like to clarify if you mean blue iMessages, or green SMS messages. If you mean SMS, the most likely reason would be due to provisioning with your carrier, potentially if you recently changed phones or SIM cards where the previous one has not been deactivated fully. In those cases, SMS messages could end up on more than one device.
For iMessages, the most common reason would be if you use the same Apple ID on multiple devices. In some cases, this can be set up intentionally, so that your messages received on your iPhone could be viewed on a Mac, for example. Use Messages on your Mac covers one set up where this can happen.
Another possibility is if you use the same Apple ID for multiple users on separate iPhones. This can cause iMessages to be seen on both devices, if Messages is set up with the Apple ID. The easiest way to resolve this type of set up issue is by using different Apple IDs and using Family Sharing to share purchases instead of relying on a single account. How to share purchases with your family explains how this would work.
