system has run out of memory warning on new MacBook pro2021

I have a new MacBook Pro that I have been using for under a week.

After investigating why my system's memory has run out, I found out that the problemis because I have attached an external monitor to the MacBook and there is a bug in the system relating to scaled screen resolution in MacOS.

Using default for display on the external monitor apparently seems to fix the issue. However as soon as I change from scaled to default and close the settings, the display reverts back to scaled. How can I stop this happening? And why has Apple not addressed this problem?

A few questions first of all:

Which MacBook Pro exactly are you using?
Which model monitor are you using?
What kind of connection? HDMI or Thunderbolt?
