How do I delete all emails from my IPAD mini 3 (software version 12.5.5) inbox? When I click on edit, I do not get a "select all" option. I'm only able to do 1 at a time. I have thousands of old emails. Thank you

Thank you for trying to help with my problem. Good news though. I am finally in process of deleting all my old emails. Here's what happened;
Spoke to senior tech guy at Apple. He concluded I have an operating system malfunction and it could not be "fixed" short of erasing the current system and reinstalling. Not going to do that. He suggested going to my email server's Web site and deleting them from there. Thought that would allow me to delete the 32k+ on the iPad from their site. It is working. Deleted about half so far. Doesn't solve the problem but fixes the symptoms until I get more emails (which I will delete as they come in).
Sorry ... that didn't work.

According to settings my software is up to date at 12.5.5. At one time I was able to delete mass emails by clicking on and holding my finger down on first email, clicking move and then trash. Doesn’t work anymore. May try deleting app and reinstalling.

Ask your eMail provide if they will empty it for you.
Thanks for your reply. The problem I stated in my question is that when I hit "edit" I unfortunately do not get a "select all" option. Only the ability to delete them one at a time. I have 32,000 emails I've been searching for how to delete for a long time now.
Mmmm.
May be try this old method.
Click the top e-mail in the sidebar, thatryou want to delete, to select it as usual.
Scroll way down the list of e-mails.
Carefully hold down the Shift key, and while holding, click on the email at the bottom.
Release the shift key.
See if all the emails between the two you clicked are now selected, ready to delete.
Press the delete key.
Hope this works for you ... if so you might be able to delete all in one go ... or in batches. :-)
The shift key is not accessible when I try that.

Sorry that it seems you just don't have the "Select all" option in iOS 12.

Would you be able to delete the large number e-mails more easily
by logging in to your eMail account on your eMail provider's website (Google. Yahoo etc) ?
Another option may be to just delete the Mail app, along with all the data,
.... you might need to have an old back-up (without so many eMails) of the iOS12 Mail app , to re-install.

Seems with iOS12, you may have to just, while viewing a list of emails:
Tap Edit, select as many emails as you can, then tap Trash.
(To turn the "confirmation of deletion" on or off, go to Settings > Mail > Ask Before Deleting.)
