Magsafe USB C to USB adapter. I read that I need a USB 3.0 adapter but does my car need to be USB 3.0 as well?

Bought a magsafe charger with the intention of plugging it into my car's UBS port using a USB C to USB adaptor. It isn't getting power. I read that it needs to be a USB 3 adapter but I'm not sure if the car has to have a USB 3 port in order for it to work that way. Has anyone tried this?
