Safari will not save suggested passwords

Safari will not save suggested passwords

For the last month or so, Safari suggests a password for a web site, I accept it - but Safari/MacOS doesn't actually save it - so I cannot log in again to the same secure page. And since Safari's suggested password is partially obscured by Safari itself - what am I suppose to do?

iCloud Keychain IS set up across my devices.

My iPhone and iPad have no problem saving suggested passwords.

Only my MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) fails to save passwords. It has happened enough now to become a very real problem.

Verify in Safari Preferences >> Auto Fill >> Other Forms is enabled with a check mark plus in " User name and Passwords " some enabled with check mark.

Is Keychain in iCloud being used.
