How do you add a cover page to a Pages document that's not part of page count after its exported?

I'm trying to add a cover page to a Pages document that will not be recognized as page 1 after exporting it as a PDF. I want the numbering of the document to match with the numbering of the thumbnails in the sidebar of a PDF reader.

If I understand you correctly then you can set the pagination after a section break (it appears that you already have inserted one; if not, in menu Insert > Section Break) to whatever you want, as shown here.

A close inspection of the area pointed to by your yellow arrow shows that the third page in the thumbnails does display the number 1 (and that the two thumbnails above that have no number in that space.

The number shown below each page thumbnail displays the number indicating the 'physical' position of that page within the Pages 'source' document and in the PDF document exported to Preview.

To the best of my knowledge, tht number is not editable.

Barry
