My watch no longer pings my phone.
Make sure that your iPhone and Watch are still connected. Are you trying this because you have lost the phone, or just testing it? They have to both be on the same Apple ID and the Watch has to be paired and connected to the iPhone. What happens when you try to ping the Phone?
Well, I did the watch update, and apparently, I'm the moron. Th watch is pinging the phone once more! All is good.
I'm guessing that you tried to ping the Watch from Find My on the iPhone? I would recommended a similar suggestion if you continue to have difficulty updating the Watch. The fact you could not ping either device from the other makes me wonder how or more actually, if they are connected/paired. If you are successful in pairing the devices by cannot ping the other from either, then I would use the Get Support link at the top of the page here to contact Apple Support for some help.

Testing the ping (which used to work before the IOS 15 update ), no sound comes from the phone. I also did the reverse and the watch did not ring or vibrate.
I called Apple, and for the first time, spoke to a partial moron. She told me to update the watch to the new watch IOS. That to me is a textbook answer to anything. But I’m trying, and that in itself is not that easy.
so I shut the watch off, restarted it, still couldn’t ping. Maybe the new IOS will install overnight.
it’s just that I can’t accept the terms for the update on the phone. Hard to explain but when I go to open up the terms, the app doesn’t open, and the screen to open it keeps looping back on.
