Hi,

Since you are posting to the iTunes Store forum I am assuming this is for your Apple Account payment method and not specifically for Apple Pay.

This document explains how to 'Change [, check], add, or remove Apple ID payment methods' on an Apple mobile device, a Mac, or a PC; click here --> https://support.apple.com/HT201266

'If you can't remove your last payment method or use no payment method with your Apple ID' click here --> https://support.apple.com/HT203905

- If you are updating an old card and have ongoing subscriptions you may need to first add the new card and make it the primary payment method before deleting the old card.

Review this document about what to do "If your payment method is declined in the App Store or iTunes Store" Click here --> https://support.apple.com/HT203005 It mostly just suggests you make sure your payment method is up to date or to try a different one. Apple is probably just checking with the system linking to your financial institution and asking if the payment method is valid. The system is providing a negative response. Make sure the name and address are entered exactly as it appears on your financial institution bills and that the 3 digit CVV is correct. Check with your financial institution about the status of your card.

Make sure this is one of the 'Payment methods that you can use with your Apple ID'; click here --> https://support.apple.com/HT202631 A solution may be to use a method from the same country as the store you are using, but Apple no longer states either way if this is a requirement (it used to say, "Make sure that the billing address for your payment method matches the billing address for your Apple ID" which was more helpful than saying nothing the way it currently does). Also read any footnotes in the document for a payment method.

If you still have problems, contact official Apple Support. Click here --> https://support.apple.com/choose-country-region/ Select your country, then a product. If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

Hi,

Sorry to hear you are having issues with managing payment methods.

First, can you confirm if you are trying to add the card to your Apple ID account, or for use with Wallet & Apple Pay?

Adding to Apple ID

If you are trying to add the new card to your Apple ID as primary payment, and the old card is already listed, you can update the card information online at https://appleid.apple.com/ by signing in with your Apple ID.

Note: If you are in Family Sharing with Purchase Sharing enabled and not the organizer, or if you have your card information tied to your Apple ID linked from Apple Pay, you will not be able to update the card information using this option.

You will also be unable to remove the primary payment on file with your Apple ID if you have any active subscriptions or unpaid balances due, and instead will need to add the new card prior to removing the old card.

Adding a card to Wallet for use with Apple Pay

If you are adding your new card to Wallet, and your old card is listed within Wallet still, you would need to remove the old card first.

This can be done by opening Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Click on the old card > scroll to the bottom and click Remove this Card

OR by opening the Wallet app > click on the old card > click the action menu/three dots in the upper right hand corner > scroll to the bottom and click Remove this Card.

Once you have removed the old card, you can add the new card to Wallet using either Settings or the Wallet app.

Note: If you had your old card linked to your Apple ID from Apple Pay, when you removed the old card in Wallet it also removed it from your Apple ID as primary payment. The payment you had on file before linking your card from Apple Pay will now show as primary payment for your Apple ID.

This also means that if you were unable to change your card information due to it previously being linked to Apple Pay, you can now update and manage payments as normal for your Apple ID.

Settings > Name > Media & Purchases > View Account > Manage Payments

Hope this helps.
