my iPhone won’t let me update my apps due to payment method which is valid and working

If you are receiving a notification about a billing issue when you go to the App Store, then there is something wrong with the payment method whether you think so or not. You need to contact iTunes support to clear that problem. Use the Get Support link at the top of the page to contact Apple.
