My new series 7 Apple Watch is not keeping charge for more than 24 hrs hrs.
that is longer than they promise

I'm not sure what anyone here can tell you. Apple suggests the battery in Apple Watch should last up to 18 hours before needing a charge.
Actually, not quite right as this is my third watch and the battery life of my previous watches was much longer; 36-48 hrs, as I very seldom use my watch to text, place/receive calls. The functions that I usually use is fitness and simple tasks. Yesterday the battery lasted less than 20 hrs, which in my experience is very poor.
That’s totally normal especially when connected to wifi or iPhone as it requires more power
