how do I get Safari back after I upgraded to Monterey. I've tried everything and all I get is a spinning wheel and force quit menu says "Safari (not responding)"

Thanks for the update. Let's try opening Safari while holding the shift key to see if it will open in the last good known state. If the same thing happens, create a new user account to test and see if the issue is there as well. This will let you know if the issue is within the whole system, or just your user account:

That did not work either. I have a MacBook Pro, 15-inch from 2019. I've tried many other steps with no success. I just get a spinning wheel when I try to open Safari. I guess I will have to go to Chrome now - really bummed.
Thank you that worked. I tried opening without holding down the shift key and it won't work. So, every time I open I will be holding down the shift key.
