Facebook Messenger and credentials access

I recently downloaded Facebook Messenger on desktop and it asked me to grant access to credentials. I declined, thinking it was optional but then it blocked me from using the app at all even after deleting and reinstalling it. This indicates to me that the configuration is somewhere in the OS. But, I couldn't find it. Has anybody had this issue and resolved it on Monterey?
