When installing on the Mac with the new SSD drive everything is going well until the last part when asking, in what disk to install from; I click the one with the bootable Monterey then it says THIS DISK IS LOCK! Thank you so much for getting back. I have just been informed by my son that he deleted the the bootable sequence
that would start the machine, which way it could not install. Would this mean this machine is dead?? Please say it's not so!!
What would be my solution to get this machine up and running? Help me "Obi-Wan-Kenobi!

Just how did he delete the bootable sequence?

Macs for many years have internet Recovery which allows installing macOS with only an internet connection.

Have you tried installing the offered macOS version offered in Recovery?

It may not be Monterey but once installed you should be able to upgrade to Monterey with the following qualifications:

  1. You need an Apple disk installed to upgrade to Monterey since the upgrade includes an update to the Mac's firmware. That update looks for an Apple disk and write to the dick to do the firmware update. The install will terminate or freeze if no Apple disk. If Monterey is offered in Recovery it may or may not download and wthe install will terminate unless this Mac was previously upgraded to Monterey.
  2. If this Mac was previously upgraded to Monterey then Monterey should be offered in Recovery and should install.

There are reports appearing on the ASC Forums regarding failed installation of Monterey on older Qualifying Apple Computers. In most cases this is related to having a NON Apple Original internal drive ?  This might be the root cause of your issue

The EFI Boot ROM included in Monterey is verifying for Original Apple Drive and if not found , may Balk or fail to upgrade to Monterey.

Reports indicate the EFI BOOT ROM is Required to Flash the Computer and is a  requirement for a Successful Monterey Installation.

Would the fact that am using a new SSD from OWC 1TB an after Market? Now mind you am using this disk on a mid 2015 MacBook Pro. Your thoughts?

The above discussion of original Apple SSDs has nothing to do with not being able to select the drive on which to install. That problem manifests in an installation failure after selecting the external drive. If you no longer have a functioning internal drive on that Mac, you may end up not being able to install, but, again, that problem would not prevent you from seeing the external drive as a valid installation location. There is a problem either with the format or with the bus not showing the external drive.

Is it an M1 Mac? You can make an M1 Mac temporarily unbootable by erasing the drive.

No, in all M1 Macs the memory as well as the SSD are soldered in place

I can't figure out how the two are related. One True Recovery (1TR) stores information on the startup SSD that if erased will essentially brick the M1 Mac until you "revive" it. It has nothing to do with the SSD or Memory being irreplaceable.
