Prepaid SIM card on iPhone

I’m traveling to Thailand and want to by prepaid SIM card. Now I use ATT but no SIM card. How does that work?

You cannot have phone service without a sim. It may be an eSim (digital software sim) but there is some type of Sim To hold your cell service data and number.

If your iPhone is unlocked, you just insert the physical sim card into the tray and it will automatically start working.

You can turn off your AT&T eSim while abroad and just use the physcial sim.
