Photo recovery
For the first time after 5 years I charged my iPhone 4. After updating my software through iTunes on my laptop all my images stored on the phone were erased. Is there any way of retrieving them? Thank you.

Troubleshooting Photos:
I. Enable Photos and Contacts in iCloud:
On the iPhones, enable Contacts in iCloud.
On the iPhone:

A. Start here: If you're Missing Photos or Videos in the Photos App - Apple Support
B. Check iCloud, Directly:
Go here, and see if they reside in iCloud: https://www.icloud.com/photos
C. Where Else to Check:

Not if they were not backed up, no.
The flash memory in the phone can not hold data indefinitely if the battery is allowed to go flat and stay flat for an extended period of time.
