Custom Labels in Contact

I recently added a new contact into my iPhone XR. Adding a custom label to a number in Contacts is no longer working as the option is no longer there. I read every response to this same problem before and all of the “solutions” I read were inaccurate. I did not fine one that worked. It started after the current update. For 2 years I’ve used the Hotmail or Microsoft Exchange and NEVER once had this problem. All my older contacts still allow for me to “Add Custom Labels”, it’s only when you create a new one that the problem occurs. So it must have something to do with the current update because I haven’t changed a thing in settings. Can anyone who has had this problem or knows of someone who did and got it resolved please respond. Thank you!

Hey CustomeContactLabelProblem,

It appears that when creating new contacts on your iPhone XR, you're no longer seeing the "Add Custom Labels" option, even after trying multiple steps. Do you use your Hotmail or Microsoft Exchange contacts on other Apple devices? If yes, does the same issue happen there? We're wondering as that can help let us know if its a specific issue with your iPhone XR or any device you use those contacts with.

To confirm, were you able to try restarting your iPhone? When you say you updated your iPhone XR, to confirm, was that to iOS 15.2? We want to confirm as iOS 15.2 was released recently: Apple security updates - Apple Support We want to make sure we understand the steps taken.

Best wishes to you.

Thank you for responding. Excellent questions! Well I just checked my wife’s iPhone XR whose running the last 14.something iOS update the same as mine, and hers had no problem with the Add Custom Contact feature like I do and she uses the same type exchange as me. So, I guess I’ll need to compare which settings we have that’s different. Any suggestions where I should start? I need that feature back since I really keep my contacts updated & organized. Thank you so much.

Yes I tried restarting my phone and that didn’t fix my issue. The only thing I can think I may have done was to delete my contact app from my iPad Air 2 trying to create some additional space since I never used the contact app on that device anyway. I don’t know if reinstalling it would help, but I don’t know how to anyway but I can try to figure it out. Let me know what you think. Thanks

I installed iOS 15.2 and the problem remains. I noticed that while I was previously surfing a general website of a track and field athlete, I got a warning message that my iPhone was infected with a virus and I was switched to a site named “comicbookgalaxey.com”. A popup said to “Tap on Ok and follow the instructions to protect my Apple Devices”. And without touching anything, another message popped up saying “Malware is detected” and to click on “ok”. I did not, but I swiped up to remove it from the screen, then after accessing the open apps in the background I swiped up again to delete it. Could this be the problem? Plus I keep getting messages supposedly from Apple asking me to put in my Apple password, and sometimes the message asks for my wife’s password which is linked to my phone, but I do not do so. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

CustomeContactLabelProblem,

Thank you for that helpful information. Deleting the Contacts app on your iPad Air 2 shouldn't have affected that option to add a customer label. Since you're still unable to add a customer label with iOS 15 after those steps, you can contact Apple Support for further assistance here: Contact Apple Support

As for the other issue you mentioned, you did the right steps closing that website and the app, as it wasn't legitimate. Check out the information below, from the following article, which has some more information that should be helpful: Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support

"If your web browser displays annoying pop-ups

While browsing the web, if you see a pop-up or alert that offers you a free prize or warns you about security problems or viruses on your device, don't believe it. These types of pop-ups are usually fraudulent advertisements, designed to trick you into downloading damaging software or giving the scammer personal information or money.

Don't call the number or follow the links to claim the prize or fix the problem. Ignore the message and simply navigate away from the page or close the entire window or tab.

If you're prompted to download software

Use extreme caution if you download content from the internet. Some downloads found on the internet may not contain the software they claim to, or may contain software that you didn't expect or want. This includes apps that ask to install configuration profiles that can then control your device. If installed, unknown or unwanted software may become intrusive and annoying and could even damage your Mac and steal your data.

To avoid unwanted, fake, or malicious software, install software from the App Store or get it directly from the developer's website. Learn how to safely open software on your Mac or remove unwanted configuration profiles from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
