Delete iMessages from Macbook, keep them in the iCloud?

Hi,

I want to remove the iMessages from the Macbook (they're taking up a lot of space!) but I don't want to "delete" them. I want to keep them on the iCloud.

Is this possible?

Or how else does one "backup" iMessages?

How To: Download iMessages to External Hard Drive to Save Space in iCloud? Hi! I saw this message (photo) when I went to check on my iCloud storage this morning! It said I could disable iMessages in iCloud to save storage and that I would have 30 days to download them. How do I create a file with all my iMessages? It would be nice to have one with the messages saved so I could see them in finder. I will settle for a backup but with that I understand I’d actually have to re-Download everything to view the messages. Thanks guys!

iCloud is your backup - it is a syncing service, not an off-site storage device. If you remove a message from Messages it is deleted across your account.

no, once deleted, messages are erased. If you use messages in iCloud, iCloud serves only to sync across devices, not as a backup.
