how do I know if I qualify? I've had this device since march 2019 and the problem just started last week.
Click the link I provided and read for more info. If you bought the phone directly from an Apple store, you should be covered.

I can not tell you if your phone is eligible. I am another user volunteering time here to try to help others.
Contact Apple to find out if your phone is eligible for the free repair.
