Viewing PDFs on iPad under "Files"

When viewing PDFs under "Files" on my iPad, how do I remove the page viewer? It is taking up an entire inch of valuable space with negative space on my screen when I really just need the PDF to be the size of my iPad again. I am a musician and I have a gig tonight and this is just making it harder to see. This is a horrible idea and there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it. Please help.
