Why do pictures in backed up Messages show question mark?

Same issues here! Frustrating, aggravating and just not acceptable.

It is July 6, 2022 and this issue persists! APPLE….FIX!!! Please!!!!

I have the same problem. It just started today!

it’s a question mark on my phone and I’m trying to save him, how can I fix it?

My photos are missing and have been replaced with blue ? marks. I need these pictures. What efforts are being made to resolve this design/tech issue?

I am having this SAME issue!! And have been on phone with numerous Tech Support Specialists from Verizon and Apple to no avail. Please fix this bug asap!

Is there any resolve to this? I updated to 16.0.2 and still have photos showing as “?” I followed the suggested directions previously provided and still have the issue

I have been having this problem for months and just solved it. Go onto your iCloud and turn on iCloud for messages and it sorts the problem. Hope this helps everyone.

I am having this problem as well - and iMessages and attachments missing ? anyone else know if there is a fix. all my iMessages are stored FOREVER in iCloud.

My Icloud for messages is on and still get the question mark.

After I Updated my phone somehow my “MMS Messaging” in my “Message” settings. I turned it on and there were all the pictures. I hope this helps someone!

I tapped on the most recent photo in our thread, and then shuffled through those photos (swipe right), and then returned to the thread and then all the “?” became a pic again.
