No. You can update third-party apps. But, the macOS cannot be upgraded.

Upgrading Past High Sierra:
This is not an option. This is because your Mac does not have the hardware required to install it. See Here: macOS Catalina is Compatible with these Computers - Apple Support
Update is defined as updating from High Sierra 10.13.5 to High Sierra 10.13.6
An upGrade is moving from High Sierra to a newer version of macOS like Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur and Monterey.
So ultimately I cannot make any updates on my software ?
