There is a process called Transfer in regard to pre-existing AppleCare plan

and the sale of those already enrolled with an extended coverage plan.

If that was an original question, &/or have other questions you may ask:

• Get Support - https://getsupport.apple.com/

• Transfer your AppleCare plan - Apple Support

• Find information about your warranty or AppleCare Plan - Apple Support

Good luck! ☺︎

Hi begreen52,

Macs currently don't have a registration process, but you can more or less do the equivalent of that by signing in with your Apple ID on the Mac.

Please ensure that your friend properly wiped the Mac before selling it to you. To erase the Mac, please see this article: Erase all content and settings on Mac - Apple Support

If those steps don't work, try these steps, depending on what chip or processor the Mac has:

Use Disk Utility to erase an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support

Use Disk Utility to erase a Mac with Apple silicon - Apple Support

The friend would likely see/ask Apple how to do that.

..If there is an extended warranty, that may be OK.

The 'ownership responsibility' only changes after

other factors have been played out. He's involved.

My responsibility is to not mislead you;

I suggest (owner) to first contact Apple.

Otherwise, I'm like anyone else visiting

ASC's ~ except for my occasional posts.

Good luck & happy trails! ☺︎
