If I were to reset my computer to factory settings, does it remove my downloaded software? E.g. microsoft office, acrobat, stata, adobe cs.
when is it appropriate to restore a MacBook or iMac to factory settings?

I have an iMac passed on to me from someone else and I would like to change the admin name AND the account name to reflect me as the 'owner'. I have been able to change the admin name, but not the account name. I was wondering if doing a restore to factory settings would help to amend this, but not sure if it deletes any programs.
Otherwise, if you have any suggestions of an alternative option, that would be super :-)
