we misplaced our MacBook and wondered if apple can help locate it

We're users just like you and unconnected to Apple corporate just like. you.
If you had Find My turned on it can locate your device and lock it. If it wasn't turned on before loss, there's nothing that can be done other than you searching for it as with any other lost item.
