hi
sidecar will show my display but the buttons on the left don't work and i can't seem to move the mouse at all with the ipad. is there a setting to enable this or something? **** thing should just completely work, considering it half-works.

Make sure you are following the instructions carefully. Use an iPad as a second display for a Mac - Apple Support
You can’t use the touch screen on the iPad directly to control what’s on screen during SideCar.
You use your Mac’s mouse by moving it off the edge of the Mac’s screen and onto the iPads screen as it becomes an extension of your Mac’s desktop.
