HELP.. iPhone 4 will not power on

Not sure what happened as I was using the phone prior to going to sleep last night and all was fine. I set my alarm clock to wake up but the phone will not power on thus I woke up late. I have charged the phone for 3 hours today so its not that it ran low. Has anyone had a problem with their phone not powering on? I tried holding down the power button as well as the home button. Also no one was using the phone besides me. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

Do a soft boot.......Hold the power and home button continuously until the Apple logo appears and then let go. Don't slide the power off bar if it comes on, just keep holding both buttons until the logo. The phone will reset and all should be fine. It's a good idea to do this several times a week.......

Did the soft boot at it worked. Thanks. Why would the phone just shut down for no reason and what is the reason for soft boots a couple times a week? Never had This problem on my 3G.

Not really sure, but I while I never had to soft boot my 3G due to something like this, I did have a few friends who did have to. With so many Apps being used on so many devices, it's possible an app made your phone go to sleep, but it's not really an issue, because you can wake it up easily. The Apple store suggested that soft booting (if there is such a word) is good to clear the cache and help the phone operate at peak speed. So, it's something I've gotten in the habit of doing a few times a week and maybe that's why I never have any issues........

that happens to me before,.. there's nothing you can do but to connect to itunes and run restore... it will activate from the original iphone settings....

Thanks for the advice, my phone just crasjed wouldnt take a charge, soft boot and were back in business, came up with apple, restart again and you have an alive iphone 4 again!

Ive had my iphone 4 , four months now and have had no problems until tonight. I ran it dead and then it wouldnt charge or cut back on. Did the "soft boot" and now everythings great! Thanks Alot

Thank you so much! I had the same problem today, and couldn't figure how to turn on my phone. I had it charging for a couple of hours.

The soft reboot worked, especially your guidance to keep holding the buttons down until the apple logo appeared. That is what worked for me.

iPhone is not just a "cell" the iPhone is computer based. [Apps - Maps - Internet - etc] Just like with a computer after some time of being on and not getting a proper reboot of the system things can go amiss. A simple reset helps clear issues such as thus.
