I assume it is for Target Disk Mode, but USB doesn't work that way.
Thunderbolt, and before that Firewire can do Target Disk Mode.

You can connect the for File Sharing & other things via Wifi or Ethernet though.
Two macs won't connect via USB cable... which exact Macs & what do you wish to do?
