I need to change my phone number for my Apple ID. I know my password but that two factor authentication is making it hard because I have no access to that old phone number.

You will first have to go through account recovery on iforgot.apple.com. When it ask you for you phone number to receive a code, select the option don’t have access to this number. It can take some time to add the number but that is Apples way of keeping your account secure
