iPad Air 4: Slow charging after iPadOS 15.2 update

My iPad Air 4 used to charge pretty fast at over a percent per minute until the iPadOS 15.2 update. Post that, the charging speed has been really slow with the original in-box 20W charger irrespective of what charge level I plug it in. Is anyone else also facing the same issue?

If you are experiencing any issues following a system software update, your first action should be a forced-restart of the iPad - as doing so will often resolve an isolated software issue:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

A system software update will sometimes modify the iPad charging strategy. However, if your iPad continues to exhibit poor charging performance, these support pages should help with troubleshooting:

Charge and monitor the iPad battery - Apple Support

If your iPad won't charge – Apple Support

Troubleshooting generally requires substitution of the Power Adapter and cable for another known-good item.

If you continue to experience difficulties, you might be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support - and request a remote diagnostic test. You can contact the Support Team using the Get Support link at top-right of this page. Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad, Power Adapter and cable(s):
